BUILDERS BARS

Throughout the project I faced multiple different challenges and issues, the first being sizing the package itself. As I had no sizing information for Clif’s packaging I actually had to meticulously dismantle a few Builders Bars myself and measure each different fold for my diagrams. Once I had taken all of my measurements I worked with a hard square set of guides for each panel. Outside of the digital construction of the project, I was tasked with creating 1:1 mockups of the package for critique each week. Each mockup was created using a glossy paper stock and actually had real Builders Bars inside to maintain the correct shape. Once I had everything folded I sealed the builder bar inside of each package before photographing the design.

I’m pretty happy with how the final copies turned out in terms of the design's development, although a little difficult to start with no dimensionsI had a lot of fun working on this project. As well as learning a lot from the whole project,  I found a real passion for package development in the process and am super excited to try out the new skills I learned in the future.

Another project here assigned by a VIU professor, this was a hypothetical rebranding of Clif Builders Bars. As an avid gymgoer and long time customer of Clif, this was a project I had a lot of fun with. The original Builders Bar design (Pictured on the left.) Although not bad, it didn't scream energy bar to me, I wanted to bring a feeling of energy and strength to the design. Additionally I felt that the original design made it a little hard to discern which flavor was which at first glance, so I set out to make that a little more obvious in my redesign. Because protein bars have a tendency to be sold individually, this was an important task for me as I wanted each design to be strong enough to stand alone without the rest of the set.

I opted to use bold colors for this design, with black intended to create an emphasis on each flavor assigned color. I tried some different iterations such as the set pictured below, before I settled on the hard rounded box shape I chose in the end. I  played around with adding a rough color swipe to the center of the design, but after some peer feedback decided to scrap it.
