The Nelson Music Collective was founded by myself and a few other local artists back in early 2020. We had been working on music and other such projects separately for quite some time but were becoming frustrated with our lack of results. That's when it hit us, we could gain so much more traction by working together. I took charge of creating all the social media/designs associated with the company and once we had everything set up we began to grow and after a few months we had moved on from being a digital to a physical presence as we released our first line of merchandise and sold out within the week. We continued selling merchandise and creating content until the summer of 2020 when we had saved enough for our first live performance show.
We used a friends front yard/patio and converted the entire thing into a dancefloor and stage complete with lights, speakers and enough room for all of our guests too arrive whilst still being covid-19 friendly. Even though the covid restrictions were much less strict at the time this event took place we still took every precaution to stay within them while planning this, we gave out masks and hand sanitizer at the front door as well as the fact that we adhered only to a strict 50 person guest list. All in all our event and merch sales ended up being a huge success and I'm extremely grateful that the collective is now in a position to do more community out reach with young artists after all of the experience we have gained throughout the project.
